A4 quattro RIP; hello Mazda 3 hatch:

Next up: Fix a couple things on the Miata, and find a gearhead to buy it.

Mazdas are fine vehicles.

That's why we bought a Kia.

Indeed. The motor in my Miata is also used in some Kias (the 94-97 Sephia IIRC). This leads to a handy tip for 1.8L Miata owners: If your HLAs collapse, go look on Randy's interchange site and buy Kia replacements, because they're the same part only cheaper. Sort of a Hiroshima version of buying VW parts for an Audi, which I also have a little experience with.

My brother recently purchased a Ford Focus ZX3, and tried to claim it has the same engine/transmission as the Mazda 3... thinking this would prevent the inevitable mocking from me (and my dad).

Then he asked if the wheels came off the Kia when it was rear-ended, and thus began the "haw haw haw you bought a Ford" entertainment.

Same bottom end, different cylinder head and other miscellany.

I think the Focus is a great car, personally, except for two things:
(1) The interior is only so-so
(2) Final assembly in Mexico.

The styling on the Mazda was too good to pass up though. I'm a sucker for good bodywork.
